Top 10 Songs To Help You Wake Up

February 19, 2016 By: Joe Aubrey
For most students, getting up early in the morning for a full day of class, work, and other monotonous activities can be excruciatingly difficult. Sometimes the right breakfast and a nice cup of coffee can help get you started. However, some might require a better way of feeling motivated in order to face the day. Aside from a decent meal, listening to some music might help students on campus to feel more optimistic and perhaps even energized to deal with what the day has in store. Here are a few suggested songs that could help perk students up a bit.
1.) First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes: Need a very mellow and optimistic start to your day? This folk song reminds us how uplifting and important every second of life is. Whether spending your time by yourself or with your significant other, it’s always important to “be working for a paycheck than waiting to win the lottery."
2.) Bros by Wolf Alice: This song might motivate you to text your friend on your way to class or work. One great thing about having a best friend is the esoteric communication, i.e. speaking with someone who truly understands everything about you.
3.) It’s Oh So Quiet by Bjork: Here’s a unique song from a very talented, enigmatic performer. It may start out very slow, but keep listening; it’ll definitely wake you up fully by the second half.
4.) Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might Be Giants: This early 90s alternative track still retains its' ability today to induce a cheerful toe-tapping feeling for any listener.
5.) The Twin Peaks theme by Angelo Badalamenti: A hypnotic, yet emotional score from an unforgettable TV series. The smooth sounding music helps create an almost ambient feeling to slowly waking up and adjusting to your daily surroundings.
6.) Something to Talk About by Badly Drawn Boy: Here’s the charming, Oscar-worthy folksong from the delightful comedy, About A Boy. The song manages to lighten up the mood for any early or late riser.
7.) I Don’t Want to Die (In a Hospital) by Conor Oberst: Oberst, who is the lead singer from the band Bright Eyes, manages to prove how talented and highly underrated he is with this emotionally exciting and cynical song from his own solo album. Despite it’s depressing and somber message, the listener can’t help but feel elevated from the jubilant piano playing and Oberst’s energetic singing.
8.) Zydrate Anatomy from Repo! The Generic Opera: Here’s a little metal music to help get students’ hearts pumping. This track comes from the cult favorite retro horror movie musical. Some may also be pleasantly surprised at Paris Hilton’s singing abilities when she comes on.
9.) Feel Good Inc. by the Gorillaz: This distinctive band of animated misfits has been flying under the radar for a decade. For any student who enjoys listening to alternative music, the song’s shift in tone from electric, to rock, to even rap can help motivate someone who might be dealing with insomnia.
10.) Elan by Nightwish: An uplifting song from a metal band that typically writes about fantasy and folklore. The moral of the song is to not let any moment go to waste. It will hopefully inspire its listeners to make the day ahead totally worthwhile.
